Yes, by signing up for CS180 in the Fall 2014 semester. Your grade for the summer program automatically becomes your grade for CS180. And yes, this course can be used as an elective for the BS and CS degrees in Computer Science.
Undergraduate and graduate students in Computer Science or Software Engineering who have successfully completed an upper division computer science course will be given first priority.
Participants must pay their airfare to Geneva (about $1500) and for meals (except lunch). Housing, lunches, excursions, and ground transportation will be paid for by the Vaud Ministry of Higher Education.
This already happened. Contact jon.pearce@sjsu.edu with questions.
A pre-departure meeting for participants will be held April 8, at 3 PM in MH225. Here is the agenda for the meeting:
If you don't have a valid passport (one that won't expire in a year), then you need to apply for one right away. It can take several weeks to get one. If this is your first passport, you must apply in person. Many post offices issue passports. You can also go to the State Department web site to apply online and to get more information.
US citizens will be issued free tourist visas when they arrive in Switzerland. If you are not a US citizen, you will need to find out if a visa is required. (Here's a pdf that might help.) If you do need a visa, then you will probably need to contact the Swiss consulate in San Francisco. The Swiss government will send a letter to the consulate with the names of the participants.
