Becoming a Sponsor for the Summer University Program in Computer Science

Summary of Program

For SJSU students to thrive in the highly competitive global economy, it is critical to develop international perspectives and knowledge. To this end, a collaboration was launched in 2006 with the Board of Higher Education of the Canton of Vaud, Switzerland. The Summer University is a consortium of universities that provides opportunities for top students to spend three to four weeks abroad studying, working, and socializing with their peers. The Goal of the program is to:

Produce globally prepared students able to collaborate across geographical, cultural, and linguistic boundaries.

Provide students with a network of peers for possible future collaborations.

Provide a new skill set in communication not usually found in the academic setting.

Why be a Sponsor?

A select group of students  participate in the Summer University program, identified by   faculty and leadership from the participating Universities. There are at least ten students from each of the universities equaling 50-70 students who are considered high potential students.  Selection is based on academic record and experience.

These are students who have chosen to devote their summer to learning about topics that might not be covered in a traditional curriculum. These are students who have chosen to devote their summer to becoming more prepared to work in an international environment. As a sponsor, you have the undivided attention of all of these students.

In addition, the Summer University programs have received press coverage. This is an opportunity for sponsors to show the world what they are doing to help future employees become globally prepared.

The Cost of Participation

The Swiss government generously subsidizes most student expenses when the program is in Switzerland. Unfortunately, US students are expected to pay their own fees, room, board, and transportation when the program is in the US. For one student this is about $2500 plus air fare.

Sponsoring Levels
