Logistics

·       Participants will be expected to make all travel and visa arrangements.

·       US passport holders don't require visas in advance. The Swiss consulate in SF will expedite visas for other nationalities.

·       Plan on arriving in Geneva the weekend of July 3rd or 4th. If enough people arrive at about the same time, they can be met at the airport and driven to the dorms, otherwise you will need to make your way by train to the dorms. Precise instructions for finding the dorms will be provided to you. (Don't worry, it's easy.)

·       On July 5 or 6 participants will be reimbursed up to $500 (in Swiss francs) for their air travel. (The actual cost will be closer to $1300, though.)

·       Participants will also be provided with a Swiss Rail Pass good for the month of July. The pass allows travel anywhere in Switzerland. Participants will primarily use the pass to travel between the dorms (most likely in Lausanne) to university (located in Yverdon-les-Bains at the west end of Lake Neuchatel. See map for details.)

·       Participants must check out of the dorms by August 1. (This doesn't mean you have to come home, though.)

·       The dorms will probably be organized into apartments. Each apartment will have several bedrooms, several bathrooms, and a kitchen with a few cooking implements.

·       The program pays for room and transportation, but not food. Participants usually eat out in cheap pizza-type restaurants or buy food and cook it in the dorms. In the past discount tickets for lunch at the university's cafeteria have been provided. There are usually several organized parties where food is provided.

·       Bring enough money to pay for food and entertainment for the entire four weeks. I estimate $20 - $50/day. A better estimate will be provided later.
