Basically, the GE requirements:

CORE GE (27 units)
A. Basic Skills (6 units)
A1, A2, A3 (A3 waived for BSSE majors)
B. Science and Math (waived for BSSE majors)
B1, B2, B3
C. Humanities and Arts (9 units)
C1, C2, C3
D. Social Science (9 units)
D1, D2, D3
E. Human understanding and development (3 units)

SJSU Studies (9 units)
R, S, V, Z (fulfilled by Eng100W)

American Institutions (6 - 9 units)
F1, F2, F3
Physical Education (2 – 4 units)

Students should go to the Engineering Student Advising Center to get expert advice on how to navigate the complex maze of GE requirements.

Students can get more general advice from the Student Advising Center.

Note: In some cases one course can satisfy a CORE GE requirement AND an American Institutions requirement or a major requirement.

Note: Some GE courses have prerequisites:

• Written Communication IA and IB: Satisfaction of the English Placement Test (EPT) requirement
• Mathematical Concepts: Satisfaction of the Entry Level Math Test (ELM) requirement
• SJSU Studies: Writing Skills Test (WST)
