ADVISING WEEK

• Prospective Students: Students not yet admitted to SJSU 

• FROSH: Students that began SJSU from High School

• Transfer Students: Students that transferred to SJSU's Computer Science program from community college or another university

• Change of Major: Students admitted to SJSU who:

  • want to change their major to Computer Science

  • already changed their major to Computer Science

• CS Minor Students: Students completing a Minor in Computer Science

• Probation Students: Students with an SJSU Grade Point Average below 2.00.

• Disqualified Students

FROSH STUDENTS

   Students who began the BSCS program directly from high school.

1st Semester FROSH Students at SJSU:

1. Must first attend an Advising Workshop
   • Sign-up here for the next session
2. Must meet with a CS Peer Mentor
   • Make an appointment here with a CS Peer Mentor
3. Must meet with Rocio Avila to clear Major Advising Registration Holds and review academic plan
   • Make appointment here with Rocio Avila

2nd Semester FROSH Students at SJSU:

• Students must meet with CS Intern, Bernard Mesa, for academic Advising and to clear their Major Advising Registration Hold

3rd Semester FROSH Students at SJSU:

• Students must meet with Rocio Avila, CS Undergraduate Advisor to clear Major Advising Registration Holds and review academic plan

4th Semester FROSH Students through Graduation at SJSU:

• Students must meet with their assigned Faculty Advisor to clear Major Advising Registration Holds, review academic plan, and apply for graduation

PREPARE FOR YOUR ADVISING SESSION by bringing the following:

• CS Major Advising Release Form COMPLETELY filled out the

  • Must include an updated or new academic plan

• Course Equivalency Form (CEF): If you have ANY Calculus, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or Computer Science courses or credit from another college, university, or AP college credit, fill out the CEF and submit to the CS Office in MH 208.

  • If you already completed a CEF, pick-up a copy of your approved form at the CS Office (MH 208) and bring it with you to your advising session

• A copy of your transcripts (un-official web printout okay)

APPLYING FOR GRADUATION:

If you THINK you will complete your BSCS degree by Spring 2013 (one year from now), you MUST APPLY for graduation NOW  (Spring 2012) by filling out these forms:

• Graduation Application, fill out and print page 1 for advisor approval

• Major Form

  • Bring your approved Course Equivalency Form for any transfer or test credit to complete the Major Form

Students that transferred to SJSU's BSCS program from community college or another university.

1st & 2nd Semester Transfer Students at SJSU:

CHANGE OF MAJOR STUDENTS

Students admitted to SJSU BUT changed major to Computer Science

Want to Change of Major to Computer Science?

Before changing your major to Computer Science you must be:

1. eligible for *Math 30/30P (Calculus I) and

2. in good academic standing

To change your major:

1. Fill out the Change of Major Form

2. Meet with Rocio Avila for approval

3. Submit approved Change of Major Form to Window R at the Student Services Center

*A student is eligible for Math 30/30P if he or she:

• receives a sufficiently high score on the Calculus Placement Exam,

• passes Math 19 with a grade of C or better, or

• has a score of 3 or higher in AP Calculus examination.

• GE Breadth check: If you transferred to SJSU, bring a checklist of the lower division GE from your community college.

Students on Academic Probation

Students with an SJSU Grade Point Average (GPA) below 2.00.

• SJSU Academic Probation Policy from the Catalog

• There is also Administrative Probation which is different from Academic Probation

Academic Advising for students on Academic Probation in the College of Science:

• Students must enroll in the Science 90T course through MySJSU during registration

• Students on Academic Probation may enroll in a maximum of 12 units, until off probation.
