Announcements
In order to use the departmental computing resources, you need to have
a departmental computer account. If you are a student and you want to
request a departmental computer account, here is the student account policy
you need to know. Once you have registered into the required classes,
you can pick up your account in WSQ1 lab.
The CS Open Lab is located in Washington Square Building, in
the basement
(WSQ 1).
The WSQ 1
Lab will not be an open lab for Spring 2011.
However, WSQ1 will be open from 11am to 1pm on these dates:
2/1, 2/2, 2/8, 2/9, 2/15, and 2/16
for you to pick up your computer accounts.
If none of these times works for you, please have your instructor contact
the department techs for special arrangements.
For PC users we recommend using ssh.com's secure shell client
that is
free to University faculty, staff, and students as long as you agree to
the
conditions detailed by ssh.com (as an alternative, you might consider
the
SSH client in Cygwin).
You may download
it to your computer from one of the mirror sites listed at:
http://www.ssh.com/support/downloads/secureshellwks/non-commercial.html.
The file you want to download is:
SSHSecureShellClient-3.2.x.tar.gz. This
is a 6MB file so it will take a few minutes to download.
To install & use:
- run it and open a connection to your favorite server
- give it the server name and your user name
- will prompt you for your password.
Another ssh client for Windows is Putty.
You can download the exectuable putty.exe
and type in the hostname you want to connect to and click "Open".
If you are a Macintosh user:
- OS X:
- already has appropriate secure shell software on the
Unix side of your
system.
- OS 9, try one of the following:
