Johnny is a entrepreneur in software development. His technology strengths include XML, Java, C++, Unix, compilers, and performance tuning. Johnny is seasoned in all aspects of full lifecycle development (design, coding, debugging, testing) as demonstrated by successful project deployments and experiences with technology vendors, Silicon Valley startups and government agencies. Johnny has provided architect-level consulting and executive guidance to clients such as PayPal, Adobe Systems, Media Fusion, Instill Corporation, First Union National Bank, The State of California, MCI Telecommunications, Infoseek Corporation, Objectivity, Versant Object Technology, Santa Clara County, Evolve Software, and Westinghouse.
Johnny is presently employeed by PayPal, a division of eBay, Inc., where he manages a C++ productivity team. He does a bit of writing and lecturing computer science in his spare time. Presently, Johnny serves as an advisory board member for five startup ventures, including Skinux, Inc., Wedshare, and Incentive Technologies.
Prior to PayPal Johnny was a software architect with Adobe Systems.
Prior to Adobe, in 1994, Johnny founded and lead a successful object consulting practice based in Silicon Valley. Using the funds from this first company, he formed a second (Xmlify, Inc.) which marketed an XML data conversion product to electronic data interchange (EDI) companies. With no outside funding, the companies' self-funded growth strategy produced annual revenues in excess of $1M.
Prior to establishing his own companies, Johnny was employed by Versant Object Technology, a leading object database vendor. At Versant, Johnny developed and taught all of the company's technical training courses. He also provided key architectural and systems consulting to customers, such as Hewlett-Packard, Texaco, Informix, EDS, The Hartford Group, and the Carnegie Group. Johnny succeeded in working with Object Database standards experts to gain Versant top performance marks in the OO7 Benchmark.
Before Versant, Johnny worked for the Institute of Systems Science, under the National University of Singapore. During his tenure with this government institute, Johnny was instrumental in initiating object-oriented technology adoption for selected Singapore IT agencies.
Before Singapore, Johnny developed compiler and language translation software. Throughout his career, Johnny has consulted for a variety of industries employing object technologies. He has been a keynote speaker and has authored articles on object databases, software reuse, and software development methods.
Johnny holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Minnesota.
